My dad bought one new in 1984, his friend totaled it the same day.

Who needs an airbag when you can bash your face off of an array of buttons! I was more-or-less saying 80's, yay! The 5th Ave is NOT an enthusiast car. Although I can personally say that it will run for at least 6k miles on 5 cylinders... ahh... high school.

He never went into much detail. It was his assistant at the time I think. He took delivery of the car at his work, his friend took it out for errands. Got a call from the state police not long after.
What made it worse was his prior car, a Riviera, was wrecked on the way to being sold. It wasn't totaled, and took 8 months to fix. When he got it back he quickly sold it and bought the Pontiac, which was wrecked shortly after.

I thought my headphones were broken for a second. I had to go play some music to check.

Had a Cutlass Ciera in high school for a short while and would have loved 5 cylinders. Actually still have the thing, marking its territory somewhere on my parent's driveway right now.

My best friend and I drove a 1990 Oldsmobile Cutlas Sierra SL from Bedford, PA to San Diego, CA + back for senior vacation in high school.
That solidified my confidence in GM v6's. The car had 212k miles on it when we started. It made the entire trip, doing 8 hour days - with absolutely no problems - on an automatic transmission. The junk yard he sold it to a few years later put it back on the road, and we still see it in town from time to time. That trip was almost ten years ago...
Hell, the car was even quick-ish through first gear. We beat the shit out of that thing.

Haha. They really are like cockroaches. Sadly mine had the iron duke with the 3 speed auto. Really tragic drivetrain. Still comfy like a couch. I got it with something like 40k miles. I honestly think the last time my grandma drove it was is the early 90's, then I got it. Pushing 90k now. Pretty sure my dad has been using it a lot, haven't touched it much since I moved out. Practically nothing to insure even in Michigan.
